REMAKING A CLASSIC

___________

Ever go to a play and wonder what it was really like the first time it was performed? Well, Gus Van Sant has taken the guessing out of it in his new version of PSYCHO. The director chose to remake the movie, not just be following the orginal script, but by following the orginal movie FRAME BY FRAME.
So did it work? Yes and no. Some of the elements that he should of perserved he didn't (i.e., Hitchock's coloring), but some of it was also fun. The actors:
ANN HECHE-BAD choice. I thought she was horrible. Not only could she not top Janet Leigh's performance, but she just looked like she was copying it. She had no life of her own.
VINCE VAUGHN-Good choice. No, he was no Anthony Perkins. I thought he was great in what he did. He transformed the boy next door into the psycho next door. No, not the same as Anthony Perkins played it, but heh, have you ever seen anyone play Hamlet the same?
JULIANE MOORE-O.k. Choice. She was alot different than the orginal Vivian. I think she changed the character the most. Maybe too much.
WILLIAM MACY-I refrain from commenting. I don't know if I thought he was good or not. I like Mr. Macy and I think I am too biased to make that choice.

Overall it was, well, an intersting movie experience. If it allows some of the other classics to be remade this way, I'm all for it.
